long time no see…
It’s been quite a while. I was actually debating whether or not to quit the blog altogether, for various reasons. Well, I’m still here, for now.
Updates:
Tuesday update.
I haven’t blogged in a while! Here’s a little bit about what’s been happening around here:
not much of a victory for me
Argh, I’m starting to slack with my one-a-day goal. I was supposed to write two yesterday, but I only wrote one. So I should have written two today, but alas, I am again writing only one. And once again I’ve waited till bedtime to write this.
Umm…today was ok. Little J and I were supposed to go shoe shopping, but it rained/stormed till 2 PM. So I got us ready to go, walked to the bus stop, and waited…and waited…and waited. (more…)
shoyu chicken
So in my “blog stats” I can see which websites have referred my blog. WordPress blog searches are included in this. I’m surprised by how many people search for “shoyu chicken” – it pops up a few times a month. What’s even funnier is that my blog entry is the only one under “shoyu chicken.” (And now this entry will be there, too.) I’m glad to see other people like shoyu chicken. Hmmm, maybe I should have included a recipe.
P.S. I’ve typed “shoyu” so many times it’s starting to sound funny. (“Tartlets…tartlets…tartlets….The word has lost all meaning.” I know who’ll get that reference!)
What a beach.
I need to go to the beach.
This is my favorite beach – Mauna Kea beach on the Big Island. Isn’t it beautiful??
Food, Glorious Food!
Tonight for dinner I made shoyu chicken (shoyu = soy sauce, for you mainlanders). It was soooooo good. My first whiff of it as it was simmering made me immediately long for home. It was the first time I attempted shoyu chicken. Suprisingly easy to make, if a little time-consuming. I kept having visions of my mother in the kitchen – which is funny, because my visions were of her making chicken adobo. I also cooked some “sticky rice” (as J called it). The smell of dinner was making us both nostalgic, and excited to have a little taste of Hawai’i.
Finally, the rice was done and the chicken was cooked. I served us, we sat down, pierced the chicken with our forks…and oops, apparently the chicken wasn’t cooked through. (more…)
Duh.
I’m sorry, but you’re not “leaving the states and going to Hawai’i.” Hawai’i IS a state, and unless you were in elementary school before 1959, there’s no excuse for that…and even then, it’s been almost fifty years. Get up to speed.
I’ll accept your correction “I meant stateside, not “in the states.” Stateside means the continental U.S. But then you had to go on with your stupid mouth and assert, “For military, Hawai’i isn’t considered ‘in the states.’ It’s the same for shopping online.”
Are you freakin’ serious?! First of all: the military doesn’t consider Hawai’i CONUS – CONtinental United States. Hawai’i is OCONUS – Outside the CONtinental United States. Yes, it’s “overseas”, because guess what? Hawai’i is over the sea. But Hawai’i IS STILL A STATE!!!! Geez, it pisses me off so much when people say dumb shit like that. So, since you’re leaving the states and PCS’ing to Hawai’i, I assume your family’s passports are in order?? And don’t forget to exchange your money for Hawaiian money when you get there. Oh, and make sure you know where the U.S. Embassy is, just in case you run into trouble and the Hawaiian government doesn’t help you! Actually, maybe you should just stay on base instead of running around a “foreign country” with a complete lack of common sense.
As for shopping online. Wow, I didn’t realize that Amazon didn’t accept my First Hawaiian Bank debit card. I thought the buttload of extra charges were for shipping, not for converting my Hawaiian money to U.S. dollars.
Does Alaska have this much trouble?
