long time no see…
It’s been quite a while. I was actually debating whether or not to quit the blog altogether, for various reasons. Well, I’m still here, for now.
Updates:
* We’ve moved! Not a PCS, just moved closer to J’s duty station. He can walk to work now, which means I have the car – yay! I love the town we live in, the main part of town is just down the road which means lots of walks as the weather gets warmer. There’s also a huge park with a cool playground set, which will be lots of fun for Little J. Since I have the car now, I do my errands and commissary shopping during the week, freeing up the weekends for family stuff. In fact, we’ve designated Sunday as Family Day – we go to church (more on that later) then do something fun together.
* I spent December – February job-hunting, with no success. It’s just a crappy time to be looking for a job, with 200-some people applying for every single thing. Especially since the area we live in has a very high rate of unemployment. After lots of discussion, I (we) decided that I would continue the SAHM (Stay-at-Home Mom) thing for now. Honestly, one of the reasons was that I don’t NEED to work right now. We’re doing better than a lot of people, financially-speaking. One of the perks of military life in a bad economy. And I would actually feel guilty for taking a job away from someone who might desperately need it. That probably sounds silly. But I am planning on going back to school soon.
* Little J is growing up! His new favorite food is Goldfish crackers. He loves loves LOVES Goldfish. He could eat them all day, and has. That’s actually how I accomplish my commissary shopping – I attach his little Goldfish-filled snack cup to the shopping cart, and he munches away, stares at people, and points out all the “bay-bees!” while I shop in (relative) peace. He still loves books and has some new dance moves. He’s also started making up songs to sing while playing his little piano. He’s definitely our child, that’s for sure. He loves babies, which is his word for anyone under the age of 5, haha. He’ll point out every child he sees – “bay-bee!!” even though he’s usually the youngest one around.
* Looks like we’re finally making it back to Hawai’i in August! I am so excited!! Would you believe I haven’t gone swimming in the ocean since before we moved here? I am dying to go to the beach. My main priorities are: see my family, go to the beach, and eat, eat, eat. J wants to get some hiking in and we’ll probably do some touristy things with my family. And I’m sure my parents will be more than happy to baby-sit so J and I can have some date nights! I can hardly wait till August!
I’ll try to blog more often. Does anyone even read this thing anymore?

Hi and Aloha,
I happened to find your blog while looking up Mauna Kea Beach. I understand how you miss the beach. I have visited the Big Island a number of times, considering moving there.
Do you ever have problems personally with vog?
I also wonder why the hotels have such strict control over entry onto some of these beaches.
I was there one day, when, the passes had all been given out.
There is so much beauty in Hawaii.
Aloha and keep blogging.. and share more about what you love.

I check in periodically, but haven’t since your last post was in November!
Am glad to see you back, sister! If airfare continues to drop (Kona-Honolulu is $28 one way on Go! right now…) maybe I’ll make a trek out there in August.
What do you think?
